Trump quote during a previous rally - "There may be somebody with tomatoes in the audience. So if you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the crap out of them, would you? Seriously. Okay? Just knock the hell—  I promise you, I will pay for the legal fees. I promise, I promise. It won’t be so much ’cause the courts agree with us too."

Well, yesterday, at a Trump rally, some dumb-ass, old, racist, did just that. He "sucker-punched" a black man being escorted out of the building by the cops (who ignored this crime and promptly surrounded the punched black man and put the cuffs on him to haul him off to jail). When asked about the incident, the idiot who committed the crime said, "Next time, we might have to kill him". I wonder if the piece of garbage known as "The Donald" will honor his pledge to his loyal follower and pay his lawyers and his court costs/fines. I mean, "a deal is a deal", right?!?

http://www.insideedition.com/headlines/15177-trump-supporter-who-punched-protester-next-time-we-might-have-to-kill-him

last night this came up, specifically about his encouragement of this behavior and he pivots to talking about supporting our police! What a maneuver.

Well, I guess the whole "Peace & Love" vibe associated with certain styles of music (and associated with our favorite band, My Morning Jacket) has some people leery about posting anything associated with the controversial topic of "Politics" or "Elections". I guess it makes people nervous or uncomfortable. On here, I had said to simply avoid this thread (and any other thread that is focused on "controversial" or "hot" topics). Several people on here backed me in this train of thought. Now, I've had a fellow MMJ fan chastise me on Twitter for being "absolutist" in my views (against Trump, I guess, since I haven't really posted negative stuff about Clinton). They would rather I only focus on the music side of life (which I do a lot of). However, I really and truly believe this aggression from Trump and all his crazy supporters should not go unchallenged by people of good conscience/will. Trump has no business being an elected official of any kind, not even dog catcher! Never the less, I have decided to stop posting stuff here about politics and dumb-ass Trump from now on. I have also decided to change my avatar on Twitter (my name there has nothing to do with MMJ already), so I will not be associated with MMJ (other than my posts regarding them). I will continue posting critical remarks about Trump (and any idiot who decides they are going to vote for him) on Twitter. That IS the place for bullshit like that!

(This is the last political post here from me. See you over in the chaos that is Twitter.)

Don't feel you can't post here, Mr. White.  The Forum should allow for a thread dedicated to politics, though I was mostly looking to post my clever MMJ meme (see first post).

If anyone feels that political discourse does not belong on this Forum, than don't visit this thread.

Donald J. Trump is a dangerous, bigoted, selfish, and dishonest fool.  Anyone who wants to defend and support him is an even bigger fool.

Thanks for the continued support, John and sillyboob. I may post a comment on the election from time to time here.

I just thought it odd for that MMJ fan (on Twitter), who apparently follows me due to my YouTube contributions, to call me out for posting stuff about Trump. He said he was disappointed in me, and that the MMJ community should be only about positive stuff (no negative vibe stuff). Well, Twitter is mostly negative vibe stuff, and this election is a terrible nightmare! I am so passionate about Bernie Sanders because it is his only chance (and probably America's only chance to shift left, in order to make things better for the middle class and the poverty stricken of our nation - my family and friends included).

Believe it or not, I have been a Sanders fan and supporter since 1994! A wonderful left-leaning, progressive late-night radio talk show host on WLS out of Chicago turned me on to Bernie while I listened to him on a small portable AM radio while doing my job of being a night-watchman/mail-room worker in my hometown, right out of the Navy (while going to community college). Bernie is about the only politician I have ever trusted to do the right thing. He cares and isn't in this to get rich or to be famous. He is real! I even called his offices in Vermont to see what I could do to help him oppose the Iraq war in 2003, since he was one of the only voices in our government who said no to going to war.

Bernie has been fighting for the same ideals since day one. Listen to his old speeches. There is nothing different. He's been fighting for the same things he's fighting for now ... because nobody else cares and won't do anything to help him out. At one point in this video, the other members of the House budget committee he's speaking to get up and leave (I guess to make their tee-time at the country club or to get in a quickie with their mistresses. Who knows!?!). It is extremely sad and frustrating at the same time. Trump is the exact opposite of Bernie Sanders. I love this man! I wish he wasn't 74 years old though. This is his last and only shot. Please listen to him and please support him WITH YOUR VOTE!

Quote
Hillary Clinton tried to pull a fast one on Bernie Sanders’ healthcare proposal at a rally in Saint Louis this afternoon. She failed miserably.

While speaking to supporters, Clinton joked that she sometimes has “a little chuckle to [her]self” when her opponent speaks about the necessity of providing universal, single-payer healthcare to every American.

“Where was he when I was trying to get health care in ’93 and ’94?” Clinton rhetorically asked.

Mike Casca, Sanders’ emergency response director, shut her down with one epic tweet:

A GIF so nice, we post it twice!

Mr. White, I've been turned on to Bernie for over a decade, myself.  I'm a NH native, for one.  Also, Bernie was on Thom Hartmann's SiriusXM program almost every Friday for "Brunch with Bernie", taking calls from listeners and sharing his thoughts on what was going on in politics and policy.  This only ended late last year, due to the campaign.

Trump calls Bernie a communist, showing once again Trump's ignorance and/or propensity to lie.  Even those lazy folks on the right, and in Hillary's camp, who call him a "socialist", are being dishonest.  Bernie calls himself a "democratic socialist", but labels are unimportant.

It all boils down to this.  We all should have access to a basic education, regardless of wealth.  We should all have access to health care, regardless of wealth.  We should all have access to roads and bridges that are safe.  We should all have access to emergency services, such as police and fire departments, regardless of wealth.  We should all be protected, as citizens of this country, from foreign invasion or attack.  We should have insurance programs to protect and support us when we lose a job, become disabled, and when we retire.

So, we have public education.  We should have universal health care.  We have publicly funded roads and bridges.  We have public police and fire departments.  We have a military.  We have unemployment insurance, disability insurance, and social security.

These are things most human people agree about.  Rich or poor, we all benefit from not only having access to these services and protections, but making them available to all of our fellow citizens, as well.

So, we collect taxes to cover the cost of these things.  We allow all citizens access to these services, these systems and protections.  We ask that all individuals and businesses contribute to the cost via taxes that are based on ability to pay.  If a person is successful in business, they must recognize the role others played in their success, as well as the support of infrastructure systems.  If someone loses their wealth, due to poor investments, being laid off or fired, getting sick or injured, etc. we help them with a social safety net until they can recover.

I haven’t worked since September 2014, due to a nearly fatal heart surgery fuck up.  Two more life-saving surgeries (and a minor procedure next week) haven’t helped.  Thank goodness for insurance, but why should someone without insurance either fail to get the care I got or become bankrupt in the process?  My brother-in-law has lived his life in a wheelchair.  Should we not help him?  My brother got laid off.  Should he not get unemployment insurance?  Many of us lost a good chunk of our retirement savings thanks to Wall Street greed and fraud (and deregulation) in the mid-2000s.  Should we not have Social Security?

I don’t understand why anyone would disagree with this.  We can differ in our views on trade, abortion, immigration, foreign policy, etc. But does anyone really believe that we should refuse to care for someone who is poor?  Are we so certain that we, ourselves, will never become poor?

Bernie was asked, at a recent televised town hall on Fox, where does the right to health care come from.

Bernie’s response… “being a  human being.”

BERNIE 2016!

Bernie is coming to Louisville on Tuesday to hold "A Future to Believe In" rally — don't miss this chance to see him in person! Join us for a conversation about the issues that matter: making college tuition-free, getting big money out of politics, combating climate change, and much more.

With the Kentucky primary coming up, we need everyone to get involved to make these events a success. Can Bernie count on you to join him on Tuesday?

A great article, not as much about Bernie as about the political reality of our country in a global context.

I picked up this Bernie Sanders "Not Me, Us" poster at his newly opened headquarters in Louisville and got another cheap frame for it. It hangs in the entrance of our house. I got another one that looks really cool, but I can't take a photo of it without a lot of distracting reflections (it's mostly black and reflects easily). I'll try to take a picture of it later and post it.

Mr. White, don't know if you or any other Louisvillians made it to Waterfront Park last night, but Bernie's rally speech was quite spectacular.  In fact, I'm encouraging anyone, regardless of who you support, to watch it in its almost-one-hour-long entirety.  I don't know how it isn't, on some level, inspiring to anyone who cares about more than just themselves and wants what is best for our country.

Yeah John. I was at that fantastic rally! I was off to the left side a bit (Carl's side) and back about 20 to 30 rows back. I got there about an hour and a half before the speech started. I didn't see anyone else I knew there though. I took a video of Bernie shaking a few hands as he left (can only catch the top of his head a few times in the video). So, I kept the recording going for a little over 2 minutes. I recorded the crowd as his exit music, "Starman", played. It sort of turned out pretty good. You can see the variety of humanity that supports Mr. Sanders vs. the one sided look when you scan a Drumpf rally audience (totally white, with the isolated, random, self-hating minority present).

I never thought I'd say such a thing, but I have gained a very, very, very, very tiny amount of respect for the Bush clan ("cough, cough, hack, hack, sputter, sputum, cough, hack"). I say this only because the following list of Bushes have announced they would not be supporting their fellow republican't, Drumpf: George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, Laura Bush, and now Jeb! Bush. Hooray for a little bit of humility and humanity!
